My Grandfather is from West Cork, Skibbereen,

I also have relations with the surname, Collins.

One of them own a pub called THE CROSS HOUSE and the other own a farm at the back of the pub. The people who own The Cross House are Peig and Francis Collins and the people who own the farm are Demos Collins. I have forgotten his wife's name.

They also have relations in Clonikilty in West Cork, their surnames are McGuire. Dan and Lilly McGuire.

I have a website for my genealogy the address is www.mccarthyfamilytree.com

This is being built but feel free to visit it and bookmark it. You can also contact me at the above website.

Bye for now

David Mc CarthyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09817959305526325096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4307640823473103973.post-16403200116381209722010-05-10T23:03:41.964-07:002010-05-10T23:03:41.964-07:00This entry is very interesting. My g-grandfather ...This entry is very interesting. My g-grandfather was Mortimor Howard. He arrived in the USA in 1849. He married Eleanora (Elsie) Burchell in Elmira, NY in 1852. Eleanora was the daughter of Samuel Burchell and Ellen Atridge from Castletownsend.

I think that Mortimor Howard was really a Hourihan and I think that he was from Cloghane based on an entry in the Boston Pilot "missing friends" data base, he was looking for information about his brother John Howard from Clohane,
Caheragh.

There was also a Bartholomew Howard who married Eleanora's sister, Johanna Burchell in Illinois in 1872. I have assumed that Bartholomew was a brother of Mortimor, but I am not sure. This Bartholomew was previously married to a Margaret Collins and had a daughter born in Ireland about 1866. I have recently found a Bartholomew Hourihan from Scobaun, Castlehaven in Griffith's and that is the only Bartholomew Hourihan/Howard that I can find.
Scobaun is very close to Castletownsend and that is why he is of interest.

I would think that we might have some overlapping relatives.

Do you have nay reasons that any of your Hourihans changed there name to Howard?

Pat O'Brien
phobrien31@comcast.netcva39https://www.blogger.com/profile/09371834870513933792noreply@blogger.com
